FAQs

Why am I receiving a new debit card?

You are receiving a new card because Kleberg Bank is moving from Mastercard® to Visa.  We are excited that the switch to Visa features the convenience of tap to pay.  Shop online, around town and worldwide anywhere Visa is accepted.

How and when will I receive my new debit card?

You will receive your new Visa tap to pay debit card in the mail sometime in September.  It's important to verify that the address you have on file with the Bank is accurate.

  • Verify your address in online banking or the mobile app under Menu > Settings > Address Change.
  • If you don't use online banking or the mobile app, visit a Kleberg Bank location and speak to a teller or banker to update your address.
  • This is also a good time to provide the best phone number to reach you and a good email address so that you receive Bank communications in the most timely and convenient way.

How do I activate my new debit card?

You can start using your new card as soon as you receive it, but you need to activate your debit card and set a pin - LEARN MORE.  Activating your new Visa debit card will immediately inactivate your Mastercard debit card, so note the information below about automatic/recurring bill payments.  Please note that all Kleberg Bank issued Mastercard debit cards will be inactivated October 31, 2023.

What will happen with automatic/recurring bill payments on my debit card?

Once you receive and activate your new tap to pay debit card, you’ll need to update your debit card account number, expiration date, security code, and PIN (if applicable) with merchants who were regularly billing your Mastercard debit card.  This may include the following:

  • Merchants who regularly bill your debit card account through automatic/recurring payments.
  • Companies who have your card on file, such as online merchants, wireless services, streaming services, cable and internet providers, insurance companies, highway toll accounts, utilities, gyms, alarm services, and more.
  • Your mobile wallet – Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, or Samsung Pay®.

I have other users on my checking account with active debit cards.  Will they be sent new debit cards too?

All active debit cardholders on your checking account will be sent a new debit card.  They will need to activate the new debit card when they receive it.  Please remind them to update any places where they keep the debit card number stored to pay bills or buy goods and services (ex. internet services, streaming services, cable services, utility providers, digital wallets, etc.).

Is my account number changing?

Your bank account number is not changing. However, your new Visa tap to pay debit card number, expiration date, and security code will be changing. Please update the following once your new debit card arrives:

  • Merchants who regularly bill your debit card account through automatic/recurring payments.
  • Companies who have your debit card on file, such as online merchants, wireless services, streaming services, cable and internet providers, insurance companies, highway toll accounts, online merchants, and more.

Account alerts set-up in online banking/the mobile app will be unaffected by this change because they are associated with your bank account number, not your debit card number.
